DIGITAL GRAPHICS Mood Boards

PURPOSE A mood board is a visual brainstorm It allows a designer to present ideas to a client in a very rough form Used by a wide variety of designers: Interior designers Product designers Garden designers Production designers

CONTENT For the purpose of your DVD menu a mood board would show: A range of foreground images you are considering manipulating for the menu A range of background images you are planning on manipulating for the menu A swatch of colours with information relating to how they will be used A swatch of fonts

FOREGROUND IMAGES Any images that have considered should go here Individual characters Group image of characters Product logo An image you are considering using as a portal

BACKGROUND IMAGES Use landscape images Any images that have considered should go here Use landscape images Make sure they are larger than standard definition television Photoshop: Film & Video Preset >>>> Pal D1/DV Widescreen Square Pixel There colours should support the overall theme You could identify how you will manipulate them Again these should be laid out as a collage

COLOUR SWATCH Display the colour scheme you are planning on using Identify which colours you will use in which areas of the design Background colour, Font colour, Heading outline, Highlight etc. Make sure your colour scheme supports the overall colour view of your mood board. Use the snipping tool to grab the swatch from palleton.com

FONTS Use the colours planned to show your font Make sure you create a background block of colour to show it in context You should write the word in several chosen fonts in a list. This allows the fonts to be compared easily Put the name of the font next the word Do this for each available font style Heading | Options | Tagline Always use available fonts, not those from online sources

TASK You should start by researching your chosen genre, look at around 5 dvd menus from similar films and explain: Choice of imagery Number of images Style of font Colours used Summarise your findings Produce a mood board for several films from this genre Write an explanation of the mood boards in the form of proposals. How you would create highlights for each Consider how you might use animated backgrounds Choose a product to design your DVD Menu for Produce a more precise mood board for this Try planning sub menus and produce separate mood boards for these. Write a detailed proposal for it.
