Parent Literacy Night SEPTEMBER 2015

ABC Chart  Please have your child practice reading the ABC chart.  After your child becomes very fluent, have them read it backwards, or in another pattern.  Play games with the ABC chart – such as toss a penny on the chart and name the letter it lands on and say a word that begins with that sound.

Raz Kids  Raz Kids is a great way to get your child excited about reading!  Your child can listen to a book or read a book. They earn stars by reading books. The stars can be spent in the “rocket room”.  Please be sure your child is working in the assigned level or below. They can go to the bookroom to select books from another level. We need that choice to be at their independent reading level or below to increase their fluency. 

Dolch Sight Word Practice   List  List  List  On this site, you can review sight words, practice flash cards, play printable games, and read sight word sentences.  Kindergarten students are responsible for learning all the words in lists 1,2,and 3 by the end of the year.  Please check the weekly newsletters online to see the words we are working on that week. We have already started working on sight words. Formal assessment will begin the second semester.

Poem Folder  This should come back and forth each day.  It can be used for reading homework using the activities found in the front of the folder.  If you have any questions about how to implement the suggested activities, please contact me.
