5. Word Rings Words come from Dolch Word List 10 new words per week (can be modified as needed) They are checked in class - 3 marks on the back and the word is “retired” Memory Boxes

6. Leveled Books Used with Guided Reading Practice Books on the weekends (one level lower for independent reading) Sent home for 2 nights in a row for fluency

7. Word Study - Sorts Used to help students identify spelling and phonics patterns in words. Assist in spelling instruction

11. Fluency The ability to read a text smoothly, easily, correctly, and at the right pace (accuracy, rate, and expression) Allows reading to sound like speaking The bridge between word recognition and comprehension Necessary for enjoyable reading
