How a Culture Spreads Trade, Travel and War Cultural Diffusion – Unit 1

Culture Beliefs, customs, laws, art and ways of living that a group of people share.

Culture Region An area of the world in which many people share similar beliefs, history and languages.

Belief System A faith system that governs how you think and behave. It give answers to the questions that people have about life and how to live it. It can be a religion or a way of living your life.

Trade Merchants share their goods and services and culture with others at different ports and trading centers. Examples are how pasta through trade went from China (the originator) to Italy, and how pizza went from Italy to the US.

Travel Local people observe and discuss culture of travelers. Examples are how movies and literature travel across the continent of North America to Europe, and how Western Dress is copied throughout the world.

War Those who are victorious impose their culture through the insitutions of those they have defeated. Examples are how English is now spoken through Iraq and Afghanistan, and how Russian was spoken throughout Eastern Europe after the Cold War.

Processing on bottom of page 6 Write a short paragraph (5 sentences) that explains how a culture spreads from one region to another. Please use at least one example from your notes.
