ACCREDITATION The District-Wide Accreditation Process involves the following: A 5-year cycle where we host an external review of our school system Provide a mid-cycle (2 ½ year) progress report Conduct an internal review Complete the cycle by hosting another accreditation visit at the end of 5 years After each accreditation visit, the visiting team leaves commendations (accomplishments) and required actions for continuous improvement

IMPORTANCE OF ACCREDITATION Accreditation lays the groundwork for success for schools and students. Parents have long held education as a key to their child’s preparation and success in life. A quality education is of the utmost importance for a child’s future. Quality and success are not mutually exclusive in the education process. Quality and student success go hand ‐ in ‐ hand and are why our schools seek accreditation.

ACCREDITATION STANDARDS Standard 1: Purpose and Direction The system maintains and communicates at all levels of the organization a purpose and direction for continuous improvement. Standard 2: Governance and Leadership The system operates under governance and leadership that promote and support student performance and school effectiveness. Standard 3: Teaching and Assessing for Learning The system’s curriculum, instructional design and assessment practices guide and ensure teacher effectiveness and student learning. Standard 4: Resources and Support Systems The system has resources and provides services in all schools that support its purpose and direction to ensure success for all students. Standard 5: Using Results for Continuous Improvement The system implements a comprehensive assessment system that generates a range of data about student learning and system effectiveness and uses the results to guide continuous improvement.

WHY ACCREDITATION MATTERS STUDENTS Benefit from their educational system’s commitment to raising student achievement. Gain greater access to federal loans, scholarships, postsecondary education and military programs PARENTS Make confident, informed decisions about their children’s education, knowing their school is accredited TEACHERS / STAFF Leads teachers to critically evaluate teaching and learning with a focus for academic excellence COMMUNITIES / BUSINESSES Viewed as desirable for economic growth and business expansion

BENEFITS OF ACCREDITATION Accreditation benefits all stakeholders: When a school or school system achieves accreditation, parents and the community can be assured that the top priorities are: Increasing student achievement Providing a safe and enriching learning environment Running an efficient operation

BENEFITS OF ACCREDITATION Students benefit when they are assured: Qualified teachers are working to improve their methods with more focus on student learning. Better transition from grade to grade. A rigorous, diverse, and sound curriculum based on quality standards a range of student activities and support services. Smoother transfer of credits from school to school. Eligibility for special programs, grants, and scholarships.

PARENTS ROLE IN ACCREDITATION Parents play a very important role in accreditation. Schools Need Parents to: Stay informed about what’s going on at their child’s school Talk to other parents about the importance of education Join the School Advisory Council (SAC) and/or Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Give feedback to the school through surveys, focus groups, and parent meetings
