Ellen Shi Latin 1 Hora 1 Day 4

Poseidon Parents: Kronos and Rhea Birthplace: Island of Crete God of the sea, rivers, flood, drought, earthquakes, and horses Latin: Poseidon Greek: Neptunus, Neptune Parents: Kronos and Rhea Birthplace: Island of Crete I chose this picture because this is a picture of Poseidon wielding his trident. He is trying to save Amymone from a satyr attack. In the left- hand side of the picture, you can see a satyr struggling with a horse, which Poseidon created. Amymone was charmed by Poseidon and bore a son, Nauplius. This picture depicts Poseidon’s power, yet also shows his kindness and mercy. That is why I chose this picture. Neptune and Amymone from ", c 1757 - Charles Andre (known as Carle Vanloo) (1705-1755) - Louvre Museum, Paris, France

Poseidon cont. Attributes: a mature man of sturdy build with a dark beard, and holding a trident Poseidon created the horse when he was trying to impress Demeter by making the most beautiful animal in the world. I chose this picture because this is a picture of Poseidon on a chariot drawn by two Hippokampoi, which are fish- tailed horses. I had always wondered why Poseidon was the god of horses, and after reading about the story of Demeter, (summarized above), I finally understand. It only makes sense that Poseidon would also make ocean- creatures similar to horses since he lives in the ocean. The story fascinates me, and that is why I chose this picture. Museum Collection: Sousse Museum, Sousse, Tunisia Catalogue Number: TBA Type: Mosaic Context: Hadrumete Date: C3rd AD Period: Imperial Roman
