Purpose:  Plan classes for next year  Review information regarding credits, promotion to 10 th grade, and graduation requirements  Give information on courses for next year Meeting Times:  Mid-January through Mid-March

You will receive a Yellow Pass in homeroom the day you will be meeting with your counselor Please honor the pass and report to the counseling office promptly at the scheduled time We do our best to schedule your annual review during a study hall or elective

A student is promoted from 9 th to 10 th Grade if he/she has earned four (4) credits and passed three (3) out of the following 9 th grades subjects: English Social Studies Mathematics Science

REGENTS DIPLOMA Students must pass the following exams with a score of 65 or above: 1 Exam in English (11 th Grade) 1 Exam in Science (Living Environment) 1 Exam in Math (Algebra I) 2 Regents Exams in Social Studies (10 th & 11 th Grade)  All students must pass a total of 5 Exams

REGENTS DIPLOMA WITH ADVANCED DESIGNATION Students must pass the following Regents exams with a score of 65 or above: 1 Additional Exam in Science (Typically Earth Science) 2 Additional Exams in Math (Geometry & Algebra 2)  5 Mandatory + 3 additional = 8 total Exams

Students may achieve an Advanced Designation Diploma by acquiring 5 credits in specific courses in Art (one credit must be Studio Art), Music (4 credits performance, 1 credit Music Theory), Business, Technology, FACS or CTE. Students still MUST have 1 credit of World Language to graduate from high school!

All courses listed are possible options for 10 th graders Some have prerequisites (must have passed a certain class in order to take this class) or require you to have been in a certain level of class (Algebra 2 – must have passed Algebra 1). Following the presentation, come back to this list and highlight or circle the courses that you may be interested in taking. Bring this to your annual review meeting.

DO take challenging courses, including electives. DO continue to take a foreign language. DO get involved in school or community-based activities. Remember, its quality not quantity. DO ask your counselor which Advanced Placement (AP) courses are available and whether you are eligible. DO create a dedicated study time & turn off your phone. DO keep a list of your awards, honors, volunteer work and extracurricular activities. Update it throughout high school. This will be helpful when you apply for colleges. DO take advantage of Naviance to research careers and colleges.

Q:What is Naviance? A: A website that provides information on careers and colleges. Q: What can Naviance do for you? A: Naviance can help you find the right career, and the colleges that may be the best fit for you. Q: How do I get to Naviance? A: Go to the district’s webpage, and look under the Students tab, and click Naviance-NSJH. Q: What can I do if I forgot my log in? A: At your annual review, your counselor will talk with you about Naviance and give you your login ID and an updated password. You should then log in to Naviance, and take the Career Cluster and log any extra-curricular activities/awards under resume.
