Job Description Biomedical Engineering is the application of engineering principles and techniques to the medical field. A bioengineer applies principles of engineering to medical and clinical fields. They are involved in the invention and creation of medical devices such as implants and prosthetics.

Attributes of a bioengineer A strong interest in engineering and medicine, The ability to think analytically and solve problems, An aptitude for science and mathematics, The ability to visualize complex processes and equipment, Good oral and written communication skills, Creativity and persistence, A willingness to improve their knowledge and skills on an ongoing basis, The ability to work effectively with people from various disciplines and educational backgrounds.

Degrees needed Usually licensed bioengineers have a four year bachelors degree in Biomedical engineering, but some students major in the electrical or mechanical engineering branches. Also getting an associates in computer engineering or medical sciences is a plus.

Typical wages and job outlook Wages The typical salary of a bioengineer is $86,960. The lowest 10% earned $52,600 and the top 10% earned $139,450. Job Outlook The field is projected to grow by 27% adding over 5,200 jobs. Biomedical engineers will see more demand for their services because of the number of activities they engage in, made possible by the diverse nature of their training.
