Presentation transcript:

* Bitmap images are based on a grid of pixels * Each pixel is assigned a specific location and color value * Bitmaps contain a limited number of pixels, and can lose detail and appear jagged if they are scaled up, or they are printed at a lower resolution than intended * Vector graphics are made up of lines and curves defined by mathematical objects called vectors * These graphics retain their crispness whether they are moved, resized, or have their color changed * Vector graphics are appropriate for illustrations, type, and graphics such as logos that may have to be scaled to different sizes

* First, you are going to merge the saucer layer into the poster image * Next you will create a vector drawing within the poster image using the pen tool

* Merge the saucer layer with the poster layer * Select the saucer layer in the Layers palette and choose Edit > Free Transform * A bounding box appears around the saucer. * Position the cursor near any corner control handle until it turns into rotate cursor * Then drag and rotate the saucer until it’s at about a 20-degree angle. * Press Enter when you are done * Save your work

* Choose View > Rulers * Drag the paths tab out of the layers palette group so that it floats independently * Hide all layers except the Retro Shape Guide layer and the background layer by clicking the eye icons * Set the foreground/background layers to their defaults, then switch the foreground and background colors

* In the toolbox, select the pen tool. Then on the tool options bar make sure that the shape layers option is selected * Create the shape by clicking and dragging as follows: * Click on point A and drag a direction line up and to the left of point B and then release * Click point B and drag a direction line toward and slightly above point C, and then release * Continue to draw curved segments in this was around the shape until you return to point A, and then click on point A to close the path
