Pixel: Short for Picture Element, single point in a graphic image.
Display is divided into thousands (or millions) of pixels, arranged in rows and columns.
The pixels are so close together that they appear connected.

3. Terms cont: Bitmap: AKA .BMP or Raster Image Based on a grid of pixels
Allows for subtle gradations of shade and color
Appropriate for continuous tone images such as photographs or Art created in paint programs.
Disadvantage: Appears jagged when scaled up (enlarged)

Made up of shapes based on mathematical expressions.
Clear, smooth lines that retain crispness when scaled
Ideal for illustrations, type and graphics such as logos that may be scaled to different sizes.
Disadvantage: Lack of gradation or natural appearance
