Cultural Dimensions PERSONAL CORPORATE ETHNIC GENERATIONAL RELIGIOUS CLASS GENDER REGIONAL NATIONAL PROFESSIONAL / EDUCATIONAL

Why work with Diversity? Scouting is open til all – the implications of this means the you actually have to be open to all  Just open… or inviting? Recognize the value of Diversity – a realisation of the fact that diversity creates more opportunities  Realize… or celebrate? Strategic Priority at world level - ”Reaching out”  Just Strategic… or also operational?

Values of working with Diversity (examples) What are they? Inspire creativity Increase knowledge Improve understanding of differences Inspire to avoid discrimination Increase possible number of members Increased leader recruitment groups Etc.

Discrimination Discrimination means to treat people according to the stereotyped image of a certain group they belong to, e.g. treating all Scots as if they held on hard to their money. (Def. from Them ‘n Us) Discrimination ~ the opposite of “recognizing the value of Diversity” – and a reason for working with Diversity as scouts!

How to work with Diversity? Implementation of Diversity in Youth Programme  When developing new programme – incorporate Diversity in all working areas (~ ’Diversified’ activities)  Supplement on Diversity programme to existing programme  Guidelines on ’How to work with Diversity at local level” Recruitment  Diversity of leaders  Diversity of scout (~ mirror the society)
