Anatomy of Subject Results Search Screen

A subject search will result in

3 possibilities: 1. exact subject heading match with only one item 2. mutiple titles with exact subject heading 3. inexact match

1. An exact subject heading match with only one item

which goes to the record of the item.

See “Anatomy of Results Screen” for more information.

2. Multiple titles with exact subject heading

will go to a list of records.

See “Anatomy of Keyword Search Results Screen” for more information.

3. An inexact match

goes to a list of possible subject headings.

The navigation bar

provides quick links to other library pages and your library account.

The extended display button

displays more information about those titles within a subject heading.

The limit/sort search button

allows narrowing of current results.

The search as words button

performs the subject search as a keyword search.

The another search button

defaults to the initial search screen.

The search Summit button

performs exact search in Summit.

The search history drop down menu

allows you to view and perform previous searches.

The modify current search box

allows you to change your search by using the drop down menus.

Save marked records and save all on page buttons

saves wanted items to the book cart.

The subject heading list

is where your search term lands alphabetically in the list.

One specific result of your subject search.

The numbered list of results.

Check box to add to book cart.

The number of unique subject headings.

The year of item, if there is only one item for the subject.

The number of entries per subject.

Example: this subject heading has related subjects,

which may contain broader, narrower or synonym subject headings.

Example: this subject heading contains books about dogs in general.

Example: a subject heading with multiple items.

Example: a subject heading with only one item.

Example: Dogs in Religion Folk Lore Etc is the same as Dogs Folklore, so this entry points to the more common entry.
