District - Individual Events

DUES Drama dues ($20) must already be paid Entrance fee to compete is $40.

One of the things we all look forward to is Districts and State competitions. They are the coolest thing you will ever do! First, we audition here, for Mr. Zembuch, and then he selects which pieces he wants to represent our troupe at Districts. There are A TON of categories you can participate in; from large group musical, to set design! So don’t worry if you‘re not really a “performance person”. Once the pieces for Districts are selected, we go to American Heritage High School, and we present them in a room full of drama kids, awesome supporters, and 3-4 judges, who will then critique our pieces. At the end of the day, we get our critique sheets back with feedback, and the scores the judges gave us. To qualify for the State Festival, one must receive a SUPERIOR on at least one of your pieces. The score we receive (which are averaged to one of the following: FAIR, GOOD, EXCELLENT, SUPERIOR), is what decides if we qualified for The Florida State Festival, which usually takes place during spring break and it is absolutely HUGE. We seriously mean huge. It’s the biggest theatre conference in the world! It takes place in Tampa, where drama kids take over the city for a week! At the state festival, students have the opportunity to go watch shows & other students’ performances, attend workshops, and more! But to be able to participate in everything, students must be on their best behavior at all times! District Competition Date: December 5 th District Competition Audition Dates: Week of October 5 th EXPERIENCED PEOPLE MUST BE READY TO SHOW ZEMBUCH A ROUGH DRAFT OF THEIR PIECES ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15 TH !!!

Audition Requirements MUST be fully prepared. If musical: MUST have sheet music + accompaniment track (on cd) or pianist. If from a straight play: MUST have full play in possession day of audition. If technical: MUST have a rough draft + copy of play you read.
