The ocean floor is as diverse as the topography of the continents.

Continental Margin  Thick layers of undisturbed sediment.  Why?  Atlantic margin wider than pacific.  Why?

Continental shelf Important mineral deposits including oil and gas/sand and gravel

Continental slope- submarine canyons How do you think they might form?

Continental rise-slope decreases until the abyssal plain is reached

Deep sea trench

Mid Ocean Ridge
