Presentation transcript:

All of you probably heard about the death of the youth named Danny. The police found out that he was a street gang member who took part in a Russian Roulette confrontation against another street gang member named Tigo. For some of you it sounds familiar but for others who don't know what "street gangs" are, should read the next task:

Street gang is a group of teens that hang out together and are involved in joint violent, illegal, or criminal activity. They generally give themselves a common name or symbol, and they often choose to wear a certain type of clothing or to display some other identifying item. The primary age group of gang members ranges generally from 13 to 21 years. Male teens are much more likely to join gangs than female teens. Female gang members are less likely to be involved in criminal behavior than males, but they are still an important concern.

How old are most gang members ? Although some gang members are as young as 12, the average age is about 17 to 18 years old. Not many people realize that around half of the youth gang members are 18 or older. These older members are much more likely to be involved in serious and violent crimes than younger members. Only about 1 in 4 gang members are ages 15 to 17

Why do teens join gangs? Teens join gangs for a variety of reasons. Some seek excitement; others are looking for honor, protection, a chance to make money, or a sense of belonging. Few teens are forced to join gangs; in most cases, teens can refuse to join without fear.retaliation of

History Gangs in one form or another have been around for hundreds of years. Pirates were probably some of the original bad gangs. The groups that traditionally come to mind when one thinks of modern day gangs are the Crips and the Bloods from California

Some motivations for joining a street groups are: Feelings of fear, Hatred, Disenfranchisement, General breakdown of social values

Who could prevent Danny’s death? We spoke with Danny’s girlfriend and we tried to answer this question: Did you know something? “I knew nothing about the events. I knew he was going to meet some of the gangs but it happened all the time” And you thought about the option that he may not stay alive after the meeting? “Danny was so determined that even when I said to him that I love him and care about him and I don’t want him to die, he always answered: my gangs are like my family- I will die for them if I need to.” When was the last time you talked with him? “It was one hour before he went to the terrible basement, we wanted to go to the lake the day after”.

When you look back, Do you think that you could have prevented Danny from belonging to the gang? “No, I don’t think so… he loved me and I have had an influence on him sometimes… but when it was his gang-He didn’t listen to me" One more question- there are a lot of girls in the world who may be in your situation, Do you want to tell them some advice? "Just try to ask more even if you feel it's too much, maybe some day he'll remember your thoughts and worries and it will save his life".

So, we hope that you learned something from this article and that you could help other teens that have the same problem (be a part of teen gangs). Michal Narkiss And Yaelle Shafir
