The 3 Ages— Prehistory Eras:

Paleolithic (Early Stone Age):  They came from eastern Asia crossing the Bering Strait (land Bridge) following herds of animals for food over 13,000 years ago.  The large animals included: mastodon and mammoths, camels, bison, giant armadillo, wolves, bears, and saber-tooth cats  People’s advantage over the animals- tools: spears and atlatl- a throwing stick.  They lived in small groups

Archaic Age: (8,000 years ago)  The climate became warmer and drier, so the large animals began to disappear.  They developed tools of stone, used to help find and make food.  They started to gather nuts, berries and roots to add to their diets.  They stayed in one area longer.  They began to tame animals.

Neo-American Age:  Began to farm  Population increased  People lived longer  Other work was done: –Craft workers –Political leaders –Religious leaders

Flow Chart of Complex Societies: 1. People migrate from Asia to America by a land bridge. 2. Native Americans hunt large animals by using spears and other tools. 3. The land becomes drier and only small animals can survive. So, the Indians use better tools to catch small animals. 4. Tribes in Central Mexico start to farm and do less hunting.
