Nature vs. Nurture By: Kelly Avila, Kitcia Lechuga, and Karina Hernandez Nature

“Parenting Is the number one influence on a child’s success or failure in life.”

The statement listed in the previous slide has been disagreed with because success depends on mental development, effort, and practice. Genes are responsible for mental processes which tells us that without these genes, we wouldn’t be able to do any of the above.

Studies show that nature takes role in these seven aspects: personality traits, talent areas, learning styles, mood and behavior patterns, stress responses, and emotional and relational styles

Which all have to do with a Childs development and success!

“Our own nature hides from us, but wants to be found” (Heraclitus). –We are the way we are because of our genetic traits. The nature is within us waiting to be found, nurture only helps us find it. Quote

No one believes in the extreme ''nurture'' position that the mind is a blank slate. Many say that when one is born, they are born with a blank mind. Nobody believes this anymore. Like stated before, the nature is within us, the nurture is only waiting to be found.

If a child’s parents abuse alcohol or abuse drugs then the child runs a % higher than in families without this record and 200% more if the record was presented in the previous generation.

Although alcoholism can be inherited from surroundings, the major part that takes role in the situation is genetics. So even if the adoptive parents teach the kid to behave and stay away and the biological parents were alcoholics, the child still runs a high risk of becoming an alcoholic as well later on in life.

Ex. If a child has ADHD, the parents will not be able to change that regardless what they do. The child is who he/she is because of their genes, not who surrounds them. Knowing that ADHD is present, the child with ADHD who is raised in a wealthy home will not be as successful as a normal kid who is raised in an average home.

No one teaches a mom how to rock her baby, no one teaches a baby to scribble, no one teaches you how to chew and swallow, no one teaches you how to succeed or fail. Its almost common sense…

Conclusion Frankly, we can say that the Childs success does not depend on how or where they are raised. Sometime, someday, life will show the true colors. Nurture does share a part in shaping who a person is and how they act, respond, succeed, or fail, but most of all, our genes control all of this. Including personality. Something that cannot be changed.
