LCHS FIRST STRIKE BATTALION JROTC LCHS FIRST STRIKE GOOD MORNING SIR, AND WELCOME TO THE FIRST STRIKE BATTALION. MY NAME IS CADET LTC MICAH CONVILLE, THE BATTALION COMMANDER. I AM 17 YEARS OLD, A SENIOR, AND IN MY 4TH YEAR OF JROTC. AFTER GRADUATION I PLAN TO ATTEND COLLEGE AND GET A DEGREE IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE. UPON COMPLETION OF MY DEGREE I WOULD LIKE TO JOIN THE DECATUR POLICE DEPARTMENT. (NEXT SLIDE) Honor Unit with Distinction for 17 years and counting... 1

FIRST STRIKE BATTALION OVERVIEW LCHS JROTC LCHS JROTC program was established July 1993 SAIs: MAJ Farris (1993-2001), LTC Hoekenga (2001-2005), CW3 Baker (2005-Present) AI: MSG Collins (1994-Present) – Starting 17 Year Of The Program 17 Years As A Honor Unit With Distinction THE FIRST STRIKE BATTALION WAS FORMED UNDER THE DIRECION OF MAJ FARRIS, JULY 1993. MAJ FARRIS REMAINED AS THE SAI FROM 1993-2001. DURING THE SUMMER 0F 2001, LTC HOEKENGA WAS HIRED AS THE SECOND SAI. HE SERVED AS SAI FROM 2001-2005. IN AUGUST OF 2005, THE PRESENT SAI, CW3 BAKER WAS HIRED AND HE IS STARTING HIS 6TH YEAR. THE AI IS MSG COLLINS WHO HAS BEEN HERE FOR ALMOST ALL OF THE HISTORY OF THE BATTALION. FINALLY, BUT NOT LEAST, I AM PROUD TO STATE THAT THE BATTALION HAS BEEN AN HONOR UNIT WITH DISTINCTION FOR OVER 17 YEARS AND PLANS TO CONTINUE THIS GREAT TRADITION. (NEXT SLIDE) 1

I ASSIGN MISSIONS AND LEADERS, AND MONITOR PROGRESS TOWARD THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS. I INSPECT STAFF WORK AND WORK AREAS. I ORGANIZE AND CONDUCT STAFF MEETINGS. I MAKE SURE THAT ORDERS AND MISSIONS ARE SENT THROUGH THE CHAIN OF COMMAND CLEARLY AND WITHOUT DELAY. I WORK WITH SCHOOL OFFICIALS TO COORDINATE ACTIVITIES INVOLVING SCHOOL ORGANIZATIONS AND THAT ALL OPERATIONS ARE WITHIN SCHOOL POLICIES. FINALLY, I AM THE CADET APPROVING AUTHORITY FOR ALL CADET PERSONNEL ACTIONS (PROMOTIONS, AWARDS, ETC) (NEXT SLIDE) 1

Battalion Executive Officer Cadet Major Second in command Direct and coordinate the battalion staff Supervise the battalion staff Assist the battalion staff Advise the battalion commander Perform special duties directed by the Battalion Commander I ASSUME COMMAND IN THE ABSENCE OF THE BATTALION COMMANDER, DIRECT AND COORDINATE THE BATTALION STAFF IN THEIR DUTIES, AND MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE GETTING THE JOB DONE AND WORKING TOGETHER. I ALSON ADVISE AND OFFER RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE BATTALION COMMANDER AND PERFORM ANY ADDITIONAL DUTIES AS DIRECTED. (NEXT SLIDE) 1

Battalion CSM Cadet Command Sergeant Major - Senior Noncommissioned Officer Advise And Assist The Battalion Commander Forms And Aligns The Battalion Formations - Teach First Sergeants - Set Battalion Standards I AM THE SENIOR NONCOMMISSIONED OFFICER IN THE BATTALION. I ASSIST THE BN CDR WITH WHAT HE DIRECTS ME TO DO, AND WHATEVER I SEE NEEDS TO BE DONE. I FORM AND ALIGN THE BN FORMATIONS FOR ALL BN FUNCTIONS (I.E. INSPECTIONS, PARADES, FORMAL EVENTS, ETC). I SUPERVISE THE COMPANY 1SGs WITH THEIR DUTIES AND FORMATIONS. I SET THE EXAMPLE FOR CONDUCT AND APPEARANCE, EXPECIALLY FOR THE YOUNGER CADETS BY SET THE STANDARDS FOR THE BN. (NEXT SLIDE) 1

Battalion S-1 Cadet Captain Maintain All Cadet Personnel Records Electronically On JUMS. Collect, Consolidate, Post, And Maintain All Merit And Demerit Reports And Records. Gather Information For Awards & Promotions. Prepare And Publish Any Orders Necessary For The Operation Of The Battalion. Perform Other Duties As Assigned By The Battalion Commander. I MAINTAIN THE BN’S RECORDS AND INFORMATION UNDER THE JUMS SYSTEM. I COLLECT, CONSOLIDATE, POST AND MAINTAIN ALL MERITS AND DEMERITS RECORDS FOR THE BN. I GATHER INFORMATION FOR AWARDS AND PROMOTIONS AND PREPARE AND PUBLISH ANY ORDERS AS NECESSARY. I PERFORM OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED BY THE BN CDR TO HELP THE BN RUN MORE SMOOTHLY. NOW I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE YOU THROUGH A SERIES OF SLIDES SHOWING DEMORGRAPHICS; ENROLLMENT TRENDS; GRADUATION RATES; AND OPEN ENROLLMENT COMPOSITION. (NEXT SLIDE) 1

PLEASE NOTE THAT IN SCHOOL YEAR 2007-2008, LAWRENCE COUNTY SCHOOLS CONVERTED FROM BLOCK SCHEDULING TO 7-PERIOD SCHEDULING. WE NOW HAVE GONE FULL CYCLE WITH NEW SCHEDULING. (NEXT SLIDE) 1

Battalion S-2 Cadet Captain Inspect JROTC Facilities For Security, Special Attention To Weapon Storage Maintain The Security In Reference To Computer / Internet Usage Assures Supply Room And Staff Office Is Secure Continues A Vision Of Physical Security I MAINTAIN A HIGH LEVEL OF SECURITY OF ALL THE BN WEAPONS WHICH INCLUDE THE DRILL TEAM, COLOR GUARD RIFLES AND RIFLE TEAM RIFLES THAT CONSIST OF THE DAISY 1903 FACSIMILE AND DAISY AIR RIFLES . I ALSO MAINTAIN SECURITY FOR ALL THE BATTALIONS COMPUTERS, SUCH AS ALL LAPTOPS BEING ATTACHED VIA CABLES. ADDITIONALLY, I MONITOR INTERNET USAGE AND ACCESS. FINALLY, I ASSURE THAT ALL AREAS WITH IN THE COLISEUM AND BATTALION ARE SECURE BY DOING A CONTINUES VISIAL CHECK FOR PHYSICAL SECURITY. (NEXT SLIDE) 1

Battalion S-3 Training/Ops Cadet Major Maintain Battalion Training Records Prepares, Maintains And Post Weekly Training Schedules Plan Battalion Calendar of Events Plans, Organizes And Supervises Ceremonies And Training Events Assumes Command In Absent Of Bn Cdr And XO I MAINTAIN THE BATTALION TRAINING RECORDS. ALSO, I PREPARE, MAINTAIN, AND POST THE WEEKLY TRAINING SCHEDULES. I PLAN THE BATTALIONS EVENTS AND TRIPS AND ASSURE THEY APPEAR ON THE TRAINING CALENDAR. ADDITIONALLY, I PLAN, ORGANIZE AND OVERSEE ALL BATTALION TRAINING (I.E. CEREMONIES, PARADES, TRAINING TRIPS / EVENTS, ETC) FINALLY, I ASSUME COMMAND IN THE ABSENTS OF THE BATTALION COMMANDER AND XO DURING ORGANIZED EVENTS WITHIN AND OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL. (NEXT SLIDE) 1

Weekly Schedules Monday: Classroom Academics Tuesday: Classroom Academics Wednesday: Classroom Academics Thursday: Inspections Friday: Company Sports/Cadet Challenge/Commander’s Activities After School: Teams Competition (Color Guard/Drill Team / Rifle Team) Note: Teams Practice Is Scheduled During 7th Period (Mon -Wed) THIS SLIDE SHOWS A NORMAL WEEKLY CLASS SCHEDULE FOR THE BATTALION. PLEASE NOTE THAT WE SCHEDULE ALL TEAM TRAINING MONDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY DURING 7TH PERIOD. THIS ALLOWS CADET TO LEAVE SCHOOL ON TIME INSTEAD OF HAVING TO FIND TRANSPORTATION HOME AFTER SCHOOL BUSES HAVE FINISHED FOR THE DAY. (NEXT SLIDE) 1

Battalion S-4 Cadet Captain Manage And Maintain Accountability Of All Items Within The S-4 / Supply Room Issue Uniforms Under The Direction Of The Military Property Specialist (MPS) Assist The MPS In Conducting Regular And Special Inventories Of Supplies And Equipment Organize The Issue And Turn-in Of Uniforms And Maintains Clothing Records Via JUMS At The End Of The Year, Oversee Uniform Processing For Laundry I MANAGE AND KEEP CONTROL OF ALL EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES STORED IN THE S4 ROOM, AND MAKE SURE THE DA FORM 3645-1 CLOTHING RECORD IS FILLED OUT CORRECTLY AND ENTERED INTO JUMS. I ISSUE ALL AUTHORIZED CLOTHING ITEMS OR OVERSEE MY ASSISTANCES AND KEEP AN ACCURATE RECORD ON FILE IN THE S4 ROOM AND ON JUMS. I ASSIST IN REGULAR AND SPECIAL INVENTORIES. I ORGANIZE THE ISSUE AND TURN-IN OF ALL CLOTHING ITEMS AND OVERSEE THE UNIFORMS FOR LAUNDRY. (NEXT SLIDE) 1

Battalion S-5 Cadet Captain Provide Publicity Articles To School And Local Media Prepare JROTC Pages For The School Yearbook Coordinate Public Service Events Maintains Battalion Scrapbook And JROTC Cadet Information Boards Plan And Coordinate Special Projects Directed By SAI And AI I PROVIDE NEWS ARTICLES ABOUT THE MISSIONS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS TO THE SCHOOL NEWSPAPER OR OTHER OTHER MEDIA. I WORK WITH THE SCHOOL YEARBOOK STAFF TO FORM THE JROTC PAGES FOR THE SCHOOL YEARBOOK. I COORDINATE PUBLIC SERVICE EVENTS. I MAINTAIN THE BATTALION SCRAPBOOK AND THE JROTC INFORMATION BOARD IN THE SCHOOL. FINALLY, I PLAN OR COORDINATE ANY SPECIAL PROJECTS ASSIGNED BY THE SAI OR AI. (NEXT SLIDE) 1

Battalion S-6 Cadet Captain Promote And Recruit For Present And Further JROTC Cadets Within The High School And Middle School Maintain Records On Potential Cadets MY MAIN RESPONSIBILITY TO PROMOTE AND RECRUIT FOR THE JROTC PROGRAM. I DO THIS BY WORKING VERY CLOSELY WITH THE S-5 PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICER IN ASSURING THAT WE GET OUT THE PURPOSE OF JROTC AND PRESENT THIS TO STUDENT WITHIN THE HIGH SCHOOL AND ONCE A YEAR COORIDANTE WITH MRS. MARTIN, THE HIGH SCHOOL GUIDANCE COUNSLER, TO VISIT BOTH MIDDLE SCHOOLS TO RECRUIT THE UPCOMING 9TH GRADERS FOR OUR JROTC PROGAM. THIS HAS PROVEN TO BE VERY VALUABLE OVER THE YEARS FOR OUR PROGRAM. FINALLY, I MAINTAIN RECORDS ON POTENTIAL CADETS BOTH FROM THE MIDDLE SCHOOL AND THE HIGH SCHOOL. (NEXT SLIDE) 1
