“Leadership in Action” Leadership and Character Development Program for High School Students

2 PURPOSE To provide an overview of the US Army S.T.A.R. Club Program—a partnership with local high schools providing students leadership and character development.

4 CONCEPT S.T.A.R. is a partnership between the high school and the US Army created to leverage the expertise and resources of local US Army Soldiers to help students develop skills that will enable and encourage them to take active roles in their own life, within their families, their school and community, with the ultimate goal of graduating high school and creating enriching postsecondary options.

Club participation facilitates life skills, leadership and responsible citizenship School Sanctioned Club Army Administers Club Program Student-Led Organization Employs the Army’s Values-based leadership doctrine as foundation: Loyalty Duty Respect Selfless Service Honor Integrity Personal Courage

WHAT WE DON’T DO: Require a service obligation Recruit for the Armed Forces Conduct Combat Skills Training

13 CLUB ELIGIBILITY Any student with a commitment to academic excellence, willingness to do their best, and desire to be a part of a team can participate in the S.T.A.R. Club. Continued eligibility is based on the minimum standards established by the school governing participation in other school extra and co-curricular activities.

Organizes formations Directs First Sergeants Assists Battalion Commander Captain Maintains financial status Keeps minutes or log of meeting Captain Updates Bn XO on student club eligibility and academic standing Major Maintains Club Training Calendar Plans future events based on Club vote Coordinates staff for operational meetings. Captain Coordinates for uniform issue (T-shirts) Assists S3 in obtaining materials for club events Captain Responsible for flyers, club announcements, maintaining club letterhead, posters, etc. Maintains historical record, photos, newspaper articles, etc. Captain Maintains website updates (Same functions as JROTC Template)
