Photography Photography involves using a camera to capture your surroundings, famous people, animals or objects. There are many jobs that are available in this sector such as: Camera Shooting Graphic Editing Smoothing editing Writing Editing Directing

Legal Issues in Photography There are several legal issues which effect this sector. For example: Copyright – If a company/brand has professional photos taken, these photos become property of the company and the photographer. This photo means that these photos are inaudible for use by the public and if the photos are wanted for use in advertisement etc. They will need permission from the owner and may have to pay to use it. You automatically get copyright protection when you create sound and music recordings, film and television recordings, broadcasts and web content/databases. Privacy – You cannot take pictures of people, or their items/belongings etc. without their permission. This can come under harassment.

Organisations that help this sector There are many agencies/organisations that help the photography sector, a main one is the British Photographic Council. This organisation helps by, protecting peoples rights, helps to promote photography work, represent their views on photography to the government and they encourage the use of photography.

Photography jobs in Edinburgh I looked at jobs available in Edinburgh in the photography sector and found a few that I found interesting. There was a job in a nightclub in which they only needed 1 years experience in photography/media. There was another for a Photography Sales Advisor, and they said they were looking for a photographer who would be interested in being a Brand Ambassador and they needed knowledge of cameras and how the cameras work. They also would receive training on the job.

Photography jobs in Edinburgh Another job I seen was a Photography Representative. They were required to have an interest in photography, have a good knowledge in cameras and the photography sector. They also needed photography experience of at least 1 year. The best way to get a good job in the photography sector would be having plenty experience. Nearly all of the jobs I looked at said they wanted someone with experience of at least one year.

Freelance Photography You can work as a freelance photographer. This means that you work self- employed and take charge of the work you do. There are many benefits to being a freelance photographer, You can earn double the pay you would if you worked via a company. You can work flexible hours. You can work for more than one customer at a time. This can also help reduce your tax bill. There are also many disadvantages with working freelance, You are not always guaranteed work People can often cancel Your wages are undetermined and self employed workers are the most likely to be scammed.

Health and Safety There are several laws that companies etc may follow whilst in work environments in order to keep workers safe, these are the several Health and Safety acts. Health and Safety at work act Most important piece of legalisation. Covers occupational health and safety all across Britain. Active since Control of Substances Hazard to Health Law in which requires employers to control substances that can be harmful. Provision and use of work equipment regulations Came into effect on the 5 th of December It is a set of guidelines to make sure that the equipment being used is safe, being used correctly and safetly.

What is a trade union? A trade union is an organisation that Is made up of many members who are mainly workers. One of their aims are to protect and advance the interests of its members in the workplace. Their responsibilities are: Negotiate agreements with employers on pay and conditions. Accompany their members n disciplinary and grievance meetings. Provide their members with legal and financial advice. There are many advantages of joining a trade union. They have better paid wages than many other industries, they provide basic education to workers, can help save jobs and increase compensation.
