International collaboration is the key to success in Research & Development (R&D) Science was globalised much earlier than business Kazakhstan is a very attractive partner for international R&D collaboration because it has: (i)Long-term strategy for educating young generation to the world leading standards; (ii)Ambitious R&D strategy to become one of the top 30 countries in the world; (iii)Rich natural resources

Opportunities for international collaboration Horizon 2020 – the main European Union (EU) research funding Erasmus+ - the main EU funding for education Funding by individual countries, such as the UK (the British Council, The Royal Society, Research Councils, The Wellcome Trust) World Bank Direct private investment

Funding targets different beneficiaries: Research institutions Universities Private companies Governmental organisations Individual researchers (human mobility)
