Health and Teens Health in The Past In the late 1800’s and early 1900’s… the leading causes of death were infectious diseases… INFECTIOUS DISEASE is a disease caused by pathogens…and is passed from person to person. Examples of infectious diseases would be polio, TB, pneumonia, and the flu… Health Today Infectious Diseases are under control, because of better living conditions and medicine… Most health problems today are related to the way we live…LIFESTYLE LIFESTYLE DISEASES are diseases caused partly by unhealthy behaviors and partly other factors…like diabetes, heart disease, and some types of cancer.

Health Risk Factors Risk factors are the factors that increases the likelihood of injury, disease, or other health problems. Controllable Risk Factors are risk factors that you can do something about,ie…physical activity, smoking, weight, and diet. Uncontrollable Risk Factors are factors that cannot be changed, ie…age, race, gender, heredity.
