The Artists of The Renaissance: otherwise known as the TMNT

Leonardo Known as the leader, for being the namesake of the most notable artist/inventor of the renaissance period

Real Leonardo ( Leonardo da Vinci ) Artist/Inventor/Scientist –Best known for his painting of the Mona Lisa. –Also draw the painting, The Last Supper depicting the scene prior to the death of Jesus; after being betrayed by Judas - Introduced many new techniques; such as sfumato, the intentional blurring of lines. He used this in the Mona Lisa. You can look closely but you can’t actually see the corners of her mouth. This makes her smile mysterious.

Mona Lisa

The Last Supper

Raphael In the comics, Raphael is seen as being mad and bitter much of the time. This can be seen to be a reflection on the way in which in real life Raphael, and his work, was overshadowed by that of Michelangelo

Real Raphael ( Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino ) Died at the young age of 37 By the age of 18, he was considered a master painter One of his greatest works of art is an image depicting the great thinkers of the Roman Era, painted in the Vatican palace.

The School of Athens

Donatello Likely connected to the renaissance artist in the way in which his productions were seen to be full of energy and thought; making Donatello the obvious choice for the thoughtful one.

Real Donatello ( Donato di Niccolò di Betto Bardi ) Lived to the ripe age of 80 Most famous work of art was the bronze statue of David (not the statue most notable by Michelangelo) Being one of the first nude sculptures of the Renaissance, many were shocked at the realism put into his sculpture of David.

Donatello’s David

Michelangelo like the character created for the comics, Renaissance artist Michelangelo also had a reputation for being “bizzarro e fantastico”

Real Michelangelo many would place him next to Leonardo in his talent and popularity regarding art in the Renaissance era. Most notable work being – The ceiling of the Sistine Chapel and the depiction of David in Stone ( the more well- known statue of David)
