OUR RESOURCE TEAM IS THE KEY TO THE SUCCESS OF OUR PREGNANT AND PARENTING TEENS

 1. Identify challenges experienced by expectant and parenting teens.  2. Identify how teachers, school nurses, social workers and community partners can support expectant and parenting teens  3. Identify effective strategies for implementing a coordinated approach within schools and the community to support expectant and parenting teens

 Team must be presented with passion and dedication. Students trust when he/she senses that provider cares.  Build a team that can provide assistance in their field.  Team bases our collaboration with individuals that can help provide the greatest opportunity to have a positive intervention in a pregnant or parenting teens life.

 Student needs Questionnaire  Referral Process:  A meeting with student, GRADS teacher and school nurse  School nurse gets copy of referral form  At that moment we schedule appointment for student  Students goes to doctor, counselor, child support etc., and brings back note so that we know that student made appointment  Follow up with student and make any other appointments, if necessary.

 Monthly well-baby clinics at child care center through PMS  If teen parent or baby is ill, PMS gets them in immediately at their office  This cuts down dramatically on student absences from school Twice a year : Meca Therapies does child development screening on all children in the childcare center. Twice a year: Familia Dental does dental cleanings on all children in ccc. Once a year : Lions Club does vision screenings on all children in ccc. Fatherhood classes are now being offered for dads that are not in school and/or cannot take parenting classes at the school because of credits, or work program Stress Management : A 12 week course is done once a week in the classroom for one hour with parent and/or parenting teens

A balance of school-based and community support is essential in bringing a transformative change and success in teen parents. Students trust when he/she senses that the provider cares.
