XXVI workshop on resent developments in High Energy Physics and Cosmology Ancient Olympia,16-19 April 2008 Tsarouchas Charilaos NTUA Detector Control System MDT Electronics

MDT DCS ELTX PROJECT Values to be controlled – monitored Project architecture FSM hierarchy and FSM creation Alarm screen User Interface operation Overview Presentation of : Charilaos Tsarouchas, CERN ATM group, NTUAthens

Values to be controlled – monitored mezz card CSM card Monitor of: Mezz Temperature value Mezz V analog value Mezz V digital value CSM all provided values (e.g. CSM temperature, 2.5 V ref. value) What this system has to offer as a Detector Control System 1. hardware to be controlled and monitored 2. interaction with other systems (LV)

PS1 PS2 Atonr _conf Atonr  Mezz number  Mezz mapping  Mezz masking  Electronic view  Sens masking Overview of ELTX DCS Architecture The main asset of the project is the gathering of information spread in several DCS pcs and DBs mdm1 mdm2 mdm8 ELTX 30” 3*14138 sensors 700 LV channels pvss oracle  History of all important values

FSM hierarchy and Architecture The FSM is the main tool for the implementation of the full control hierarchy in ATLAS MDT_Eltx ECABABCECC SECTOR 01 SECTOR 02 SECTOR 16 BIS1A02 … … corresponding node picture

Propagation of Information MDT_Eltx ECABABCECC SECTOR 01 SECTOR 02 SECTOR 16 BIS1A02 … … SECTOR 02 BA MDT_Eltx Chamber LV ON -> OFF FSM is the heart of DCS, it organizes the devices / logical nodes in a parent –children structure.

ALARM Mechanism 1.node state 2.csm state 3.csm 2.5V ref V 4.Mezz Temperature 5.Mezz Analog V 6.Mezzanine Digital V 7.CSM temperature 8.CSM 2.5V ref V The alarm screen is the first user inteactive mechanism

Picture of MDT ELTX panlel ( :25) Snapshot taken in the last M run ( about 10 sectors commisioned)

Sector level panel

Chamber level panel Bad sensor Value Triggers The alarm

Interactive features 1.Check the OPC server from PS machines. In case of stop of opc server a mail and a SMS message is sent to: - the ELTX expert (Charilaos Tsarouchas) - The PS expert (Eleni Mountricha) 2.Debug panel of chambers in state UNKNOWN ATLAS CR environment outside world

The ELTX 4 piece puzzle Each piece can work alone but in order to have a real online status of out detector all pieces should run in parallel and communicate each other.

lets make it run …
