The New Technologies in Masters of Real Estate Sciences Elena De la Poza Cergy-Pontoise December 2007

1.How is the educational system in Spain nowadays? 2.Accredited Masters of Real Estate by RICS in Spain. 3.Who is interested in Real Estate Masters? 4.Application of New Technologies 5.Short-run future interests of the Master.

The first edition of the Masters of Real Estate Sciences was in at Polytechnic University of Valencia (INECO (Center for the Economic Engineering)) At the beginning (2000) the Master was taught in joint partnership with Nottingham Trent University (UK) Since 2005, there has been a partnership of some lecturers of NTU in the Masters, but not an institutional relationship between the universities.

How is the educational system in Spain nowadays? Bachelor Degree…….Masters The Masters of Real Estate Sciences are oriented specially for two kind of students: –Those who have a Bachelor in Business and management/ Economics. –Those who are Civil Engineers or Architects

Accredited Masters of Real Estate by RICS in Spain In Spain, there are only 2 Masters of Real Estate Sciences Accredited by RICS. –The Master offered by Polytechnic University of Valencia. (e-learning) –The Master offered by IE (attendance is mandatory).

Who is interested in Real Estate Masters? According to our experience, most of students are already working on real estate market when they begin the Masters. 85%. The firms are very interested in the skills of their employees and in their RICS accreditations. During the course , 42% of students have received financial help from their firms to pay the Masters. 60% of the students are funded at the 100% by firms 40% of the students are funded at the 50% by firms

Who is interested in Real Estate Masters? Most of the times the student had to choose between: –Study –Work This has been the main point to develop a Master based on the e-learning. We consider, the Master is an important tool and a warranty of the student’s professional career progress.

Application of New Technologies The success of the masters is based on the use of e-learning system. The via of the communication between students, lecturers and staff management is Internet, through a “platform” In addition the student has to attend to mandatory classes twice during the year. The student knows these dates in advance.

Why to apply New Technologies? Between the difficulties a Master’s student finds are: Their location: –They live far away from Valencia –They work abroad or they travel constantly Time: –Even if the student could attend to class, it is impossible for him to follow the class Economical reasons: –E-learning is cheaper.

E-learning solve all this problems, since the student can access on line to the masters resources any place and any time.

Short-run future interests of the Master. The main Masters’ goal is to promote the cross-national e- learning Masters in Real Estate. We are looking for European Universities partners. We are interested in the Erasmus Mundus masters.

Thank you !
