The Earth Day Network Topic 8: Lifelong Learning  Exploring what it means to be a Global Citizen Laura Bowring

What is the Earth Day Network (EDN)? The Earth Day Network (EDN) is an organisation that’s goal is to inform and energize populations so that they will act to secure a healthy future for themselves and their children. Channelled by the energy of the anti-war protest movements, EDN held its first Earth Day on the 22 nd of April in 1970, where 20 million Americans launched a modern environmental movement. This movement led to the: Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, The Endangered Species Act and many other ground- breaking environmental acts.

EDN currently works with over 22,000 partners in 192 countries. EDN is also a recognised leader in creating civically orientated innovative programs with partners outside the environmental movement to tackle new challenges. Today more than 1 billion people participate in Earth Day around the world. This April 22 nd 2014 will be the 44 th Anniversary of Earth Day!

Examples of EDN’s Work : Campaigns & Projects  Greening Schools and Promoting Environmental Education  Accelerating the Global Green Economy  The Canopy Project  Earth Day India  Campaign to protect the Asian Elephant  The Green cities Campaign  Women and the Green Economy  A Billion Acts of Greens For more details please go to:
