3 Earth Day In 1962, author Rachel Carson published Silent Spring.The book documented the effects of pesticides on the environment. The American public was outraged. History of Earth Day

5 Earth Day Gaylord Nelson was elected to the US Senate in 1962. He had been governor of Wisconsin and a member of the state legislature. He is credited as being the key founder of Earth Day History of Earth Day
