Presentation transcript:

Multi-year Professional Development projects that are proven to be:  Replicable builds capacity for ongoing PD and collaboration  Sustainable establishes a shared vision of raised expectations and achievement  Manageable creates a leadership team that includes principals, literacy leaders, coaches, and teachers  Affordable delivers a full year of PD for under $100 per teacher What Is It?

Who is it for? Why use this PD series? At AJS, we want to:  Increase student literacy achievement  Impact our instructional practices  Increase communication/ create a “common language” about writing  Increase collaboration within our teaching community

How does it work? Led by a team of instructional leaders within the school, the Professional Development consists of regular on-going sessions for:  Planning  Collaborating  Presenting  Talking, learning, and teaching How does this work?

AJS Implementation plan All of fourth grade + all interested teachers in other grades will begin the “pilot” of this process by attending one training session per month, beginning in February (scheduled to replace our second faculty meeting each month) Teachers and coaches will apply the strategies during Writing instruction, then meet to reflect and discuss their impact on learning

(continued) Fall 2010 All K-4 teachers will begin PD training on the Regie Routman Reading/ Writing Connections series, following an “I Do, We Do, You Do” Optimal Learning Model Instructional coaches will work in classrooms to support implementation of strategies taught

Getting Started Guide Planning begins with:  Preparing for Schoolwide PD (p. 18)  Leadership Team Checklist (p. 28)  Agenda Outline for All Sessions (p. 36)  PD Calendars (p. 61)  DVD GETTING STARTED
