"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man [woman] whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him [her]. Will he [she] gain anything by it? Will it restore him [her] to a control over his [her] own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to swaraj [freedom] for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away." Famous Quote This is one of the last notes Gandhi left in 1948.

Gandhi was born on October 2,1896 at Porbandar a small town in the western coast of India. He was born into a middle class family. His grandfather was the prime minister of Porbandar and than his father took over. When he was 13 he had an arranged marriage. Biography

Continued When he was in high school he would rebel against his religion and eat meat and smoke cigarettes. By the age of 18 he went to London to continue his studies. When he returned to India he was offered a great job. On January 30th, 1948, he was walking slowly from his home to attend a prayer meeting when a thirty-nine years old Hindu called Nathuram Godse who mistakably thought Gandhi was harming the Hindus by being friendly to Muslims shot the Great Soul after respectfully bowing to him. A few minutes later a man came out to the waiting crowd and announced that the little old man who sacrificed with all he had for his country, who reshaped the lives of many, who changed the path of the world, who inspired -and still will inspire- mankind till the end of the world was dead.
