Initiating Process Group Processes to define a new project or new phase of an existing project To obtain authorization to start by Project charter and Stakeholder register Define scope Commit financial resources Identify internal/external stakeholders Selecting project manager Approval and funding are external to project boundaries

Initiating Process Group Can be performed by organization, portfolio or program external to project scope of control Project high-level requirements may be documented as part of organizational initiative which includes Feasibility study Project objectives Scope, deliverables, duration, forecast of resources In general, initiation process group can be seen as to include Develop project charter which is in Project Integration Management knowledge area Identify stakeholder which is in Project Communication Management knowledge area
