Conflict in Richard Connell’s "The Most Dangerous Game" Presentation by: Dayana Calderon, Antoine Izaguirre, Igor Navarrete, and Ariadna Chaves

Internal Conflict An internal conflict is the struggle occurring within a character's mind. Example of internal conflict: " 'I will not lose my nerve. I will not.‘ He slid down from the tree, and struck off again into the woods. His face was set and he forced the machinery of his mind to function. Three hundred yards from his hiding place he stopped where a huge dead tree leaned precariously on a smaller, living one. Throwing off his sack of food, Rainsford took his knife from its sheath and began to work with all his energy”(Connell 108). Context for this example??? How is this an internal conflict???

External Conflict An external conflict is a struggle between a literary or dramatic character and an outside force such as nature or another character. Example of external conflict: "The general’s eyes had left the ground and were traveling inch by inch up the tree. Rainsford froze there, every muscle tensed for a spring. But the sharp eyes of the hunter stopped before they reached the limb where Rainsford lay; a smile spread over his brown face.” (Connell 108). Context for this example??? How is this an example of external conflict???

Hero and Villain The protagonist in the story is Rainsford. The antagonists in the story are General Zaroff, Ivan, and the dogs.

Main Conflict The main conflict that sets the story in motion is when General Zaroff tells Rainsford he is going to be hunted and Rainsford realizes how serious the general is. For Rainsford, it then becomes a race for survival. The story picks up the pace and pushes forward as Rainsford fights for his life in the unknown realm of the wild.

Thanks We hope you enjoyed our presentation. Any questions???
