Introduction to Science Level 4 with Mrs. Bernhard

Welcome to Science Level 4 I am Mrs. Bernhard and I will be your teacher. I would like share some things about me, so you can get to know me.

I live in Wilmington, North Carolina in the USA.

I enjoy living here because we can go to the beach everyday. Wilmington is located on the east coast of the US. Do you live in a coastal area?

I have two children, both in high school. Erik is in 12 th grade and Kathleen is in 9 th grade. My favorite subject is science because I like to discover how the world works!

I will now explain what I will expect from you and what you can expect from me. I will also briefly explain the seven topics we will learn about and the learning outcomes.

You will be expected to put your best foot forward! Which means you must always try your best! Review the lessons, and complete all assignments in your science journal.

I will put my best foot forward, too! Which means I will carefully explain every lesson and provide you with science activities for you to test what you have learned.

The topics we will learn about are: Forces and Motion. Outcome: you will be able to explain how various forces affect the motion of an object.

Energy: Conservation and Transfer Outcome: you will be able to recognize that energy takes many forms that may be grouped based on their interaction with matter.

Earth History Outcome: you will understand the use of fossils and changes in the surface of earth as evidence of the history of Earth and its changing life forms.

Matter: Properties and Change Outcome: you will understand the composition and properties of matter before and after they undergo a change or interaction.

Ecosystems Outcome: you will understand the effects of environmental changes, adaptations and behaviors that enable animals (including humans) to survive in changing habitats.

Molecular Biology Outcome: you will understand food and the benefits of vitamins, minerals and exercise.

Earth in the Universe Outcome: you will be able to explain the causes of day and night and the phases of the moon.

Remember always put your best foot forward and together we will enjoy learning science!
