UNIT IV INVERTERS Forced commutation techniques – Single- phase and three-phase (both 120° mode and 180° mode) inverters – PWM techniques – Voltage and harmonic control – Series resonant inverter – Voltage and current source inverters.

UNIT V AC VOLTAGE CONTROLLERS Principle of on-off control and phase control – Single-phase bidirectional controllers with R and RL loads – Three-phase full-wave controllers – Three-phase bidirectional delta-connected controllers – PWM control – Cycloconverters: Single-phase and Three-phase

Power electronics Power electronics is the technology associated with the efficient conversion, control and conditioning of electric power by static means from its available input form into the desired electrical output form.

UNIT I POWER SEMICONDUCTOR DEVICES Some semiconductor switching devices: Power diodes Power transistors MOSFET and IGBT TRIAC Special semiconductor devices

Laser Diodes

UNIT II PHASE-CONTROLLED CONVERTERS Definition: A converter that changes the number of phases in an alternating-current power source without changing the frequency.

Related topics: 2-pulse converters 3-pulse converters 6-pulse converters Effect of source impedance. Effect of load inductance.

UNIT III DC TO DC CONVERTERS Definition: DC to DC converter is a device that accepts a DC input voltage and produces a DC output voltage. DC-DC converters are electronic devices used whenever we want to change DC electrical power efficiently from one voltage level to another.

Step-down and step-up choppers Time ratio control and current limit control Buck converter Boost converter Buck-Boost converter Cuk converter Basics concepts on SMPS

UNIT IV INVERTERS INVERTERS: An inverter is an electrical device that converts direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC); the converted AC can be at any required voltage and frequency with the use of appropriate transformers, switching, and control circuits.

Single-phase inverters. Three -phase inverters. PWM techniques. Voltage and harmonic control. Series resonant inverter.

UNIT V AC VOLTAGE CONTROLLERS Single-phase bidirectional controllers( with R and RL loads). Three-phase full-wave controllers. PWM control. Cycloconverters (both single and three phase).
