Prevention of Injury 5 major aspects Rules of the Game Correct Clothing & Footwear Protective Clothing & Equipment Balanced Competition Warm up & Cool Down

Rules of the Game Rules are there to make the game the same everywhere its played Some rules are designed to prevent injuries to players (eg. Scrummaging in Rugby)

Correct Clothing & Footwear Each sport has a unique type of clothing, which has developed due to the nature of the game Clothing should be –In good order –Not catch on equipment –Not flap in the oppositions face and hinder their performance –Allow free movement to perform the skills of the game

Protective Clothing & Equipment Each activity needs its own protective equipment. Each item of protection guards against a different form of injury - impact from another player - the playing surface - the ball - external conditions

Balanced Competition In contact sports there are rules that keep similar age groups together and that separates the sexes at certain ages –Grading –Skill level –Weight –Age –Sex

Warm up & Cool Down Warm Up Prepares the body for exercise Loosens the muscles Increases heart rate Cool Down Keeps heart rate high Flushes toxins generated by exercise out of the body
