1 Risks Tuesday 6 th October GCSE PE Fix it Five… Take 5 minutes to respond to the feedback in your books. Ensure tasks/Q’s are completed thoroughly… For those of you still not using a ruler, I am edging closer to lodging one in the back of your head…. Take pride in your work!!

2 Starter activity… Discuss this with your partner Have a look at the environment you are in… Are there any potential risks? What are they? What is a risk?

3 Learning Objectives… To be able to identify potential risks To understand how risks can be prevented before and during the activity To apply this knowledge to exam questions

4 Risks… There is a risk in whatever activity you are doing Exercise should be as safe as possible There are a lot of things you can do before and during exercise to lessen your chances of getting hurt

5 Before the activity… Personal Readiness Before doing a new activity, you should complete a PAR-Q This makes sure you are fit and healthy enough to do the activity Warm Up This makes sure you exercise the muscles you are going to use Check Equipment/Facilities Use the right equipment – check it’s in good condition Use the correct technique when lifting/carrying Check for possible dangers in the area you will be exercising in Can you think of examples of these in sport?!

6 During the activity… Balanced Competition Play with people of the same… Size and strength – sporting example? Skill level - sporting example? Gender - sporting example? Size and Strength… Make sure you’re boxing in the right weight division Skill level… Don’t try and play rugby against professionals on your first go Gender… Generally men are physically stronger and faster so men/women have separate divisions

7 During the activity… Play by the Rules Know and follow the rules of the game – be sporting and try not to hurt your opponents. Some rules are there to help stop injuries, e.g. red/yellow cards in football Use the correct technique – e.g. safely tackling someone in rugby or hockey Use officials – ensure there’s fair play and rules are followed

8 During the activity… Correct Clothing Make sure you’re not wearing anything that can get caught Wear suitable footwear – e.g. wearing studded football boots will make you less likely to slip and injure yourself Use protective clothing/equipment where appropriate, e.g. mouthguard, helmet

9 Exam questions… Complete the exam questions sheet using the information you have learnt today

10 Homework… REVISION!!!! End of unit test next lesson.
