Wellbeing Hi-5 The Culture, Health and Wellbeing Partnership is pleased to announce Wellbeing Hi-5 – a month of arts, cultural and heritage events this October promoting the Five Ways to Wellbeing: Giving Taking Notice Connecting Being Active Learning Giving - Taking Notice - Connecting - Being Active - Learning 1

Giving Do something nice for a friend or a stranger, thank someone, smile, volunteer your time, join a community group, and look out as well as in. Seeing yourself and your happiness linked to the wider community can be incredibly rewarding and creates connections with the people around you. Taking Notice Be curious, catch sight of the beautiful, remark on the unusual, notice the changing seasons and savour the moment, whether you are walking to work, eating lunch or talking to friends. Be aware of the world around you and what you are feeling, reflecting on your experiences will help you appreciate what matters to you. Connecting With the people around you, with family, with friends, colleagues and neighbours, at home, work, school or in your local community. Think of these as cornerstones of your life and invest time in developing them. Building these connections will support and enrich you every day. Being Active Go for a walk or run, step outside, cycle, play a game, garden, dance. Exercising makes you feel good. Most importantly, discover a physical activity you enjoy and that suits your level of mobility and fitness. Learning Try something new, rediscover an old interest, sign up for that course, take on a different responsibility at work, fix a bike and learn to play an instrument or how to cook your favourite food. Set a challenge you will enjoy achieving. Learning new things will make you more confident as well as being fun. Giving - Taking Notice - Connecting - Being Active - Learning 2

This year Wellbeing Hi-5 is specifically looking at how taking part in arts, culture and heritage activities can promote Healthy Lifestyles. Some examples include taking part in a dance class will help you to improve your mobility and physical fitness or creating films with children to promote the anti-smoking campaign. Using culture to promote a healthy lifestyle of Leicestershire’s residents works towards the Health and Wellbeing Board’s priorities of: Supporting an Ageing Population Managing the shift to early intervention and prevention Improving mental health and wellbeing It does this by using fun and engaging activities to encourage people to make the right lifestyle choice from an early age. 3 Giving - Taking Notice - Connecting - Being Active - Learning

How are we going to get involved? Involve our learners in the celebration by asking them to produce a piece of art or craft work that is about how their learning impacts their wellbeing. Their responses will be mapped against the 5 ways to wellbeing. The work produced in the art or craft area in which they are working, will be in the form of triangles for display as bunting. Learners we be able in certain cases to produce artwork ideas rather than pieces of craft work eg: pottery, upholstery, glass. The work produced will be exhibited at Charnwood Museum in a large display case and at various locations around the County as part of the October celebrations. All tutors must actively encourage their learners to be involved. We need as much work as we possibly can to make the displays look vibrant and exciting. 4 Giving - Taking Notice - Connecting - Being Active - Learning Your Service Needs You

What will you be doing in the classroom? 5 Giving - Taking Notice - Connecting - Being Active - Learning In the last weeks of the Summer term and the first week of your course in September you will discuss with your learners the project and explain the reasons behind it and encourage them to participate. You will give them clear guidance on what is required and discuss with them ways of achieving the work. If the work can be tied into either an assessment based activity to show skills or techniques that would avoid the possibility of it being an additional burden to the planned work. We will give you a brief handout, that details the process to ensure the art / craft work will truly be a celebration of wellbeing. All the work produced needs to be completed by the end of September / beginning of October so it can be sorted and distributed to the venues. Please do your utmost to ensure we have a wide range of work across all art / craft areas and that is has line colour and texture. It is an excellent opportunity for us to advertise what we do and how well we do it. Please make sure all our specialist areas are represented. Thank you.
