Introduction Southampton NHS Treatment Centre provides elective surgery to NHS patients. We are a modern, forward thinking care provider to 9 specialities. The Treatment Centre consists of Theatre complex – 5 operating theatres, PACU, PAT, TSSU 2 Endoscopy suites 18 Outpatient clinic rooms 19 Inpatient beds 24 day case beds 3 Outpatient Oral Surgery suites Pharmacy X Ray Physio

Elective Surgery We provide elective surgery for 9 different specialities….. Gynaecology Orthopaedics UGI / LGI Vascular Urology Ophthalmology Oral surgery Pain ENT

Day Surgery Unit The Day surgery unit has 24 bed spaces that are used though a 11.5 hour day and can care for up to 40 patients a day. The Nursing team consists of 1 Unit Manager 6 Full time RGN’s / 2 Part time RGN 4 HCA’s The Unit is open at 08:30 and closes at 20:30 The Day Unit can care for over 550 day case patients a month! This is an ideal clinical environment to begin your surgical nursing career. It can be fast paced and challenging, everything you need to develop your skills and gain confidence as an established surgical nurse.

Inpatient Ward The Inpatient Ward has 19 beds, used for patients who are having more complex elective surgery such as joint replacements, TURPS or total abdominal hysterectomy’s and require longer care. The average length of stay for an Inpatient is 3 days as we promote the use of The Enhanced Recovery Programme. The Inpatient ward provides 24/7 care to our patients The Nursing Team consists of  1 Ward Manager  12 RGN’s  2 Assistant Practitioners  5 HCA’s

Teresa McEvoy, Theatre Nurse – YouTube An excellent work – life balance…… Apart from Inpatients (which is reflected in unsocial hours enhancement in salary) No Sunday working No working on a bank holiday (you are paid for your bank holiday entitlement) Minimal unsociable working hours (i.e. not past 9pm) 5 weeks annual leave a year

The Preceptorship Programme Run over 12 months Competency based learning programme with a named Mentor Supranumary period, length of time depends on choice of primary location Rotation between all clinical areas of the Treatment Centre You are able to chose your primary location / placement within the Centre Salary uplift on completion of the programme Regular 1:1 feedback sessions with both your Mentor and Line Manager
