What is a Clause? : a group of words that can function by itself or not function by itself within a sentence.

Dependent Clause (also called a subordinate clause): Fragment- it does not express a complete thought. It can NOT stand alone as a sentence. Always begins with a subordinate conjunction (refer to your list) If a dependent clause begins a sentence, then place a (, ) after it Ex:When the bell rang, the students had to remain seated.
