Totalitarian Dictatorship Rule by a single leader or a small group May use force to keep control and uses force to come to power Little or no attention to public opinion or individual rights North Korea today

Theocracy Government run by religious law and rules A supreme leader is selected by an assembly of experts and given unlimited power Iran today

Absolute Monarchy  Has a king or a queen  Has complete and unlimited power  Power is passed along through the family (heredity)  Saudi Arabia

Constitutional Monarchy  King or Queen rules in a partnership with a democratically elected parliament  Power is limited by a Constitution  Spain, Japan, Canada…

Parliamentary Democracy  Citizens vote for representatives to Parliament (Congress)  Parliament then elects a Prime Minister (President) from among themselves  Germany today

Presidential Democracy  Led by representatives of the voters  The President is chosen by the people and is separate from the Congress  USA

Anarchy  Absence or non- recognition of authority and order in any given sphere  No government
