Introduce the Learning Activity Before I mention what adding and subtraction is that day I am going to bring M and M’s. Then I am going to put all 10 on the table then take 2 away. Then I will ask the student how many are left there answer should be 8 (The students are familiar with counting).

Introduce the Learning Activity Con’t Then I will put 5 M and M’s on the table and then adds 4 more to the table and I would ask the students how many I have and they should be able to add all the M and M’s and say the answer is 9.

Provide Information Then we will play a game. I will say and addition and a subtraction problem and they will have to solve the problem and form a group with the answer. For example I will say 5 plus 2 and then they have to form a group with 3 children in it.

Provide Information Con’t Then I will say 6 minus 1 then they will form a group with 5 children in it. This is a way to get the children learning and having fun at the same time.

Provide Practice I will have them take home a worksheet and have them practice the problems at home. Them I will have them hand in the homework just to see if they comprehend what is going on before I move on.

Provide Knowledge of Results A. Most students are afraid to raise their hands because they feel stupid. So to make the students feel more comfortable. I will go around to each student to make sure that they are doing okay and if they have any questions.

Provide Knowledge of Results Con’t B. If they really don’t understand I will ask them to come to extra help and I will be more then happy to help them.

Review the Activity Everyday when I start math I will make sure that I start off as a reminder with the basics of addition and subtractions and then move on to the next topic.

Method of Assessment To make sure that each student understands addition and subtraction I will give them a quiz at the end of the week. If students have a hard time with the problems I will have to go back and reteach it to them. But if most of them do well then the children that are

Method of Assessment Con’t struggling I will ask them to see me after class. When I meet with them I will ask them to come to my extra helps until I see that they understand the information.
