CHALLENGES Reporting TB cases and Noise induces Hearing Loss TB re-infection resulting in MDR(TB). Dedicated Occupational Health Service that would adequately diagnose, refer, monitor and report Occupational diseases & TB to DMR System in place to track and report diagnosed TB cases Completion of compensation forms by employers who only provide once a year Medical surveillance, Employees might have TB and treated within the reporting Employees deliberately don’t report TB as are afraid of losing their Employees don’t adhere to treatment if they will not be paid NO private institution offers TB program

IMPROVEMENTS There is improvement regarding reporting of TB and other Occupational diseases Proper reporting, follow up and training of employees resulting in improved health and reduction in number of diseases Security officers are screened Employees are holistically treated, especially where managed health is provided, chronic disease and HIV counseling Testing is done and followed up ensuring treatment adherence

OCCUPATIONAL HYGIENE 6 Operations in the region are considered high risk Risk is the average level of the HEG, not individual samples. Minimum sampling can affect the HEG risk category Risk is carried for a calendar year. MHSC Milestones are individual samples

OCCUPATIONAL HYGIENE All operations have machinery emitting more than 85 dB No operations have noise above 105 dB TMM enclosed for heat, dust and noise All employees are issued with HPD’s Chemical induced hearing loss makes workers more susceptible to noise induced hearing loss

OCCUPATIONAL HYGIENE Heat is a big risk in the region due to under reporting and global warming. Temps as high as 52°C measured. Most COP’s have Heat Stress Management recorded as part of medical surveillance. Risk of heat illnesses is small due to air conditioning and rest regimens. Mines require action levels for high heat exposures.

NEW LEGISLATION –Protection of women in mining report to be submitted to DMR on monthly basis –PDS –Fatigue Management –PPE for Women Guideline –TMM Guideline –Blasting Regulations
