What do Penguins Look Like? There are 17 types of penguins. Penguins look like birds, but they are not. They lost their ability to fly a long time ago. 3

Emperor penguins are the largest penguins. Some penguins are as tall as dogs. They can weigh 100 pounds which is as much as a dog weighs. 4

What Makes the Macaroni Penguin Different? This is a Macaroni Penguin. They have yellow bristles on their heads. Their chicks have their own special bristles too. 5

What do Penguins Eat? octopus squid fish krill They eat octopus, squid, fish, and krill. 6

How do Penguins Move? Penguins can walk on ice without falling. They waddle when they walk. 7

They can dive into deep water. They leap out of the ocean. 8

Where do Penguins Live? Some penguins live in South America in the southern hemi-sphere. Others live in Antarctica, Australia and the southern part of Africa. 10

How do Penguins Care for Their Babies? Mother penguins lay eggs. She stands with her eggs until the father penguin comes. The mother penguin gives the eggs to the father penguin. Then the mother penguin goes to sea to find food. 11

Father Emperor penguins don’t eat for three months. They take care of the eggs. When the egg cracks open, they give the baby penguins milk. They regurgitate their food into their babies’ mouth. 12

All of the penguins huddle together to keep warm. 13
