13 September ICT2010 Intelligent energy efficiency control in hospitals HosPilot Contract number:

What is HosPilot o HosPilot is focused on energy efficiency in hospitals o Main goal of the project is to demonstrate and validate a methodology for proposing energy efficient solutions for hospitals o Demonstration through three pilot sites o Focus on lighting, HVAC, controls and monitoring 2 Project description

Why are we doing it o The methodology will be applicable everywhere in Europe o Drive towards energy savings o Hospitals are measure of well being of the society o Some hospitals do not comply with the legislations o It will stimulate hospitals to get refurbished and thus improving the well being and reducing global energy consumption 3 Project rationale

Strategic objective More efficient use of energy while improving the comfort of the end users in the hospital environment Main goal To develop an energy reduction service and to prove that it fulfills the project objective 4 Project essentials

Partners Philips Lighting, NL Philips Iberica S.A.U., ES Acciona Infraestructuras S.A., ES Fundacion Labein, ES Valtion Teknillinen Tutkimuskeskus, FI Centre Scientifique et Technique du Batiment, FR Universitair Medisch Centrum Groningen, NL Servicio Riojano de Salud, ES Insinööritoimisto Olof Granlund Oy, FI Hospital District of South Ostrobothnian, FI Enoleo, MN ION solutions, RS Coordinator Nebojša Fišeković Philips Lighting Netherlands 5 Partners and coordinator

Pilots Pilot sites o Good geographical spread for pan-European testing o Very big hospitals o Very versatile health establishments o Orientation towards energy efficiency o Good conditions for installing pilot sites

Project duration 3 years Project started in March 2009 Timing 1 st year:Making methodology 2 nd year:Pilot implementation 3 rd year:Monitoring and improving methodology 7 Project plan

What is the methodology o Methodology provides a hardware description for an energy efficient system for any hospital, based on general requirements and specific requirements of that hospital o Consists of questionnaire, decision logic and technical solutions o Its final form will be an expert system (software tool) Novelty o Starting point: off-the-shelf technologies o Considers energy efficient installations in all the domains (lighting, HVAC, control strategies and system monitoring) o Made by combining expert knowledge of all the partners 8 HosPilot methodology

Rooms requirements Technical solutions Lighting HVAC Monitoring Finger print Questionnaire and selection criterias Blue print Norms Usage 9 Methodology structure

10 Future plans Project will last two more years o Implementation and monitoring of the pilots o Making a software tool from methodology o Improving and fine tuning of the methodology o Dissemination and exploitation of the methodology

11 Conclusions HosPilot will make hospitals nicer and more energy efficient o HosPilot will help the decision makers to choose the most energy efficient technical solutions for refurbishing hospitals o Methodology will be made and tested in three pilot hospitals o A lot has been already done on making the methodology o Solutions are oriented towards energy efficiency and increase of hospital comfort
