Pasewark & Pasewark 1 PowerPoint Lesson 2 Creating and Enhancing PowerPoint Presentations Part 2 Microsoft Office 2007: Introductory

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Pasewark & PasewarkMicrosoft Office 2007: Introductory 2 Adding Text to Slides The slide layouts create placeholders on the slides that reserve space for the type of information you want to insert. You can use the Slide pane to enter text so that you can see how it looks on the slide. You can also add text using the Outline tab. You can also add text in a text box or shape, rather than into a placeholder.

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Pasewark & PasewarkMicrosoft Office 2007: Introductory 3 Adding Notes to Slides A good PowerPoint presentation generally contains brief, main points about the subject. Use the speaker notes to remind yourself of any additional information you need. To add speaker notes, click the Notes pane below the slide and begin typing, or switch to Notes Page view.

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Pasewark & PasewarkMicrosoft Office 2007: Introductory 4 Changing Text Alignment, Spacing, Case, and Tabs To change text alignment, select the text and click one of the alignment buttons in the Paragraph group on the Home tab of the Ribbon. To change the case of text, select the text. On the Ribbon, on the Home tab, in the Font group, click the Change Case button. Set a tab by selecting the text and clicking the Tab button at the left of the horizontal ruler. Clear a tab by dragging the tab marker off the ruler.

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Pasewark & PasewarkMicrosoft Office 2007: Introductory 5 Working with Bullets Bullets define each line in the Content placeholder on a slide. You can format the bullets by clicking the Bullets button list arrow on the Mini toolbar to display the Bullets gallery. You can select a preset bullet or add a graphical bullet. You can customize a bulleted list including the shape, size, color, and distance from text. To change the appearance of bullets throughout a presentation, make the changes to the slide master.

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Pasewark & PasewarkMicrosoft Office 2007: Introductory 6 Changing Font Attributes If you use a theme, the format of the text is predetermined for consistency throughout the presentation. You can change the font using the buttons on the Home tab in the Font group. To make changes to a word or a line of text, select the word or line of text. To make changes to all text in a placeholder, click the border of the placeholder. You can also use the Mini toolbar as a shortcut to make font changes.

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Pasewark & PasewarkMicrosoft Office 2007: Introductory 7 Checking Spelling, Style and Usage Automatic spell checking identifies words not in the PowerPoint dictionary by underlining them with a red, wavy line. To correct spelling errors, right-click the word to show the shortcut menu with correction options. You can also check the spelling in a presentation after it is complete. You can also use the Thesaurus to offer a selection of alternative words.

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Pasewark & PasewarkMicrosoft Office 2007: Introductory 8 Formatting Slides To change or delete text, select the text and press the Delete key, backspace key, or type new text. To change the layout of a slide or slides, you can use the program theme’s preset layouts. The layouts include placeholders for text and content. To change the layout of an existing slide, on the Home tab, in the Slides group, click the Layout button.

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Pasewark & PasewarkMicrosoft Office 2007: Introductory 9 Adding Clip Art and Sounds to Slides – Table – Chart – SmartArt graphic – Picture from file – Clip art – Movie If there is no content placeholder, you can still insert clip art on a slide. You can also insert a sound effect. When a sound is on a slide, you will see a sound icon. If a content placeholder appears, you can choose from six objects:

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Pasewark & PasewarkMicrosoft Office 2007: Introductory 10 Inserting Hyperlinks A hyperlink allows you to jump to another slide, file, or to a Web site if you are connected to the Internet. You can add a hyperlink to go to another slide within your presentation, a different presentation, or to another Office document. You can also add a hyperlink that opens a message window for an address.

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Pasewark & PasewarkMicrosoft Office 2007: Introductory 11 Using Custom Animation You can add select animation effects to any objects on a slide. Animation is what makes slide shows fun and interesting to watch. Effects are organized into four categories: – Entrance and Exit define the animation for entry and exit of an object. – Emphasis defines the animation for an object already on the slide. – Motion Paths allow you to use predefined paths for the movement of an object.

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Pasewark & PasewarkMicrosoft Office 2007: Introductory 12 Using Custom Animation (continued) You can select how an object is animated, arrange animation order, determine whether to display the animation manually or automatically, and adjust the speed of the animation. You can animate the object when you click your mouse, with the previous object, or after the previous object. You may make adjustments to the effects by clicking Effects Options. You can apply animation to the current (displayed) slide.

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Pasewark & PasewarkMicrosoft Office 2007: Introductory 13 Using Slide Transitions When you run a presentation, slide transitions determine how one slide is removed and how the next one appears. The best view to work in when working on transitions is Slide Sorter view. This is where you can see all the slides at one time. You have the option of selecting the speed at which the slide transitions, adding a sound, and choosing to have the slide advance automatically or manually.
