Chapter Objectives Describe the benefits of participating in a regular personal fitness program. Identify the ways physical activity helps lower your risk for disease. Identify ways to make physical activity a lifelong habit. Identify negative attitudes you may have toward physical activity.

Healthy People Goals Improve health, fitness, and quality of life through daily physical activity. Increase the proportion of adolescents who participate in daily school physical education. Increase the proportion of people who perform physical activity that enhances and maintains muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility.

What physical activity can do for you now! Makes you feel more energetic Helps you relieve tension and relax Overall appearance improves Helps you lose weight and control your appetite Helps you think and concentrate better

Lowering the risk factors for disease Achieving cardiorespiratory fitness can reduce the risk of heart disease, lower blood pressure, and strengthen your immune system.
