A carbon footprint is a measure of how we affect the environment and climate change. It is related to the amount of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere. A carbon footprint is made of two parts. Primary and Secondary

A primary footprint measures our direct emissions of Co2 into the atmosphere, from burning fossil fuels including domestic consumption and transportation such as cars and planes. We have direct control of the primary footprint.

The secondary footprint is the indirect emissions of Co2 into the atmosphere, from the whole lifecycle of products we use. These are associated with their manufacture, and eventual breakdown. The more we buy the more emissions being released because of us.

Carbon Dioxide. Co2 is a compound composed of two oxygen atoms and one carbon atom. Used by plants to make sugar. Causing it to get warmer, and melting polar ice causing the water to absorb the Co2 and get even warmer. Planting 1 tree will absorb 1 ton of carbon. When a rain forest is destroyed thousands of trees are cut down which allows thousands of tons of Co2 into the atmosphere.

Carbon Cycle

STOP BURNING FOSSIL FUELS… Switching all cars to either electric or hybrid. Stop cutting down the rain forest and plant more trees. Turn off lights and other appliances when they are not being used. Hang out your laundry when you can instead of using a dryer. Recycle all of your garbage. Switch to a more energy efficient light bulb. Turn your heat off when your not using it. Try car pooling when you can.

How can you help. Con’t If your tap water is good to drink don’t buy bottle water. Buy more organic foods. Try to reduce the consumption of meat you eat. Buy local fruits and vegetables. Recycle…

What we do not to help We emit carbon dioxide from our cars, burning fossil fuels, using to much energy. Co2 is released through all the garbage we do not recycle. Cutting down trees increases the Co2.
