Bacteria Wanted Poster Research Project Background Information: Students will research one bacterial pathogen and produce a "Wanted Poster." Student Requirements: Students select a pathogen from the list below. They will then produce a wanted poster with the given parameters.

Pathogen Disease Bacillus anthracis anthrax Neisseria meningitidis spinal menigitis Bordetella pertussis whooping cough Rickettsia richettsii Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever Clostridium botulinum botulism Rickettsia prowazekii typhus Clostridium perfringens gas gangrene Salmonella typhi typhoid fever Clostridium tetani tetanus Salmonella typhimurium food poisoning Corynebacterium diphtheria diphtheria Shigella dysenteriae dysentery Escherichia coli acute pyelonephritis Streptococcus mutans cavities Francisella tularensis tularemia or rabbit fever Streptococcus pneumoniae pneumonia Hemophilus influenzae meningitis Streptococcus (group A) scarlet fever Lactobacillus acidophilus rheumatic fever Mycobacterium leprae leprosy (Hansen's disease) Treponema pallidum syphilis Mycobacterium tuberculosis tuberculosis Treponema pertenue yaws Neisseria gonorrhoeae gonorrhoea Vibrio cholerae cholera Yersinia pestis plague

"photo" (electron micrograph or microscopic picture/diagram) Project Description/Abstract: Make a wanted poster for one of the Monerans listed above. Poster is to be on 8.5" x 11" paper. Include: "photo" (electron micrograph or microscopic picture/diagram) description - include Gram stain, classification (bacilli, cocci, or sprilla) organism's m.o. (police jargon) (How the organism attacks and spreads) most common victims to prey upon hide out of the culprit (where it is most likely to be found) most common injury done to victim Is it considered armed and dangerous? rate the degree of damage caused number of victims most effective weapons against the germ any other identifying characteristics (such as tattoos)
