2 Bacillus anthracis (Anthrax)
B. Anthracis is the bacterial agent responsible for anthrax disease, and is gram-positive. The bacteria are the long, thin lines (circled in red). Answer: These bacteria are bacilli, or rod-shaped, bacteria. What shape is this bacteria?

3 What shape is this bacteria?
Escherichia coli 0157:H7 This strain of E. Coli causes food borne illness. This is a scanning electron micrograph of E. Coli, but E. Coli are also gram-negative. Answer: These bacteria are bacilli, or rod-shaped, bacteria. What shape is this bacteria?

4 What shape is this bacteria?
P. acnes (Acne) P. Acnes lives on the face and causes the skin condition acne. The bacteria are circled in red. Answer: These bacteria are bacilli, or rod-shaped, bacteria. What shape is this bacteria?

5 Streptococcus pyogenes
(Strep Throat) Streptococcus pyogenes causes the disease strep throat. The bacteria are actually spherically shaped, but the bacteria string themselves together so that they look like they are shaped like a short string. S. pyogenes is gram-positive. Answer: These bacteria are cocci, or spherically shaped, bacteria. What shape is this bacteria?

6 Staphylococcus aureus
(Staph Infection) This bacteria causes staph infection. This is a scanning electron micrograph of S. Aureus, but the bacteria is gram-positive. Answer: These bacteria are cocci, or spherically shaped, bacteria. What shape is this bacteria?

7 Borrelia burgdorferi (Lyme Disease)
Borrelia Burgdorferi causes Lyme disease, and is gram-negative. Answer: These bacteria are spirilla, or spiral shaped, bacteria. What shape is this bacteria?

8 Treponema pallidum (Syphilis)
Treponema pallidum causes syphilis. These bacteria are difficult to treat with gram-stain. Answer: These bacteria are spirilla, or spiral shaped, bacteria. What shape is this bacteria?
