A program of the Technology Student Association

Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics and Science (TEAMS)  TEAMS is a one-day engineering competition where students collaborate and apply math and science skills to solve real-world engineering issues  Annual theme based on the National Academy of Engineering Grand Challenges—the 2016 theme is “Engineering the Tools of Innovation”  Topics are theme-based— the 2016 competition will include optics, space exploration and effective manufacturing

TEAMS  10,000 students competed in TEAMS in 2015  1,200 teams competed in 2015  Students can compete at a local school or at a collegiate host site  Best in State and Best in Nation awards  Top ranking teams in the state may compete at the national TEAMS competition, held at the national TSA conference, for Best in Nation rankings

TEAMS Collegiate Hosts  60 collegiate hosts sites in 2015  Host sites accommodate between 5 and 70 teams  Host sites incorporate information about collegiate opportunities at their school  Host sites may offer “day of” awards to participants  Hosting TEAMS strengthens community relationships

Host Registration  Complete host application and return to TSA  Once approved, complete online host record  Options  How many teams (8 students each) can your venue accommodate?  Will you host just high school, just middle school, or both levels?  Will you subsidize registration or charge a host fee per team?  Choose a competition date during the TEAMS competition window  February 8th - March 20th

Pre-competition  Identify schools within a 50 mile range as possible participants  Market to:  technology teachers  engineering teachers  math teachers  science teachers  counselors  principals  Use TEAMS brochure (electronic and print available)

Competition Day Sample Schedule  9:30–10:00 am Arrival and welcome  10:15–11:45 am Part 1  11:45 am–12:30 pm Campus tour/activity  12:30–1:15 pm Lunch  1:30–3:00 pm Part 2 and coaches workshop  3:00–3:30 pm Guest/student speakers  3:30–4:00 pm Awards  4:00 pm Dismissal

Post competition  Enter Part 1 scores via online host account  Send Part 2 answer sheets (top sheet) to national TSA for judging  Retain Part 1 and Part 2 (bottom sheet) until the beginning of April  Return Part 1 and Part 2 (bottom sheet) to coaches in early April  Check the TEAMS website for rankings in April
